2026.09.29: PS1 DR2 available with VO Table Access Protocol on Postgres
MAST has recently enabled TAP services to Postgres databases, which offers improved performance relative to the legacy databases.
The first catalog available on this new, Postgres-backed TAP service is the PS1 DR2 catalog!
This new PS1 DR2 TAP service can be accessed through https://mast.stsci.edu/vo-tap/api/v0.1/mast_catalogs/. Details about this service's capabilities are available from the same URL.
A migration guide is available in the MAST PS1 documentation, providing an overview of the tables included in this Postgres version of the PS1 DR2 catalog (including caveats). The guide also includes a translation between the tables in the legacy TAP service/CASJobs version of the catalog and this new version.
The Catalog Schema Browser can be used to explore the schemas for all TAP-accessible tables in the Postgres database, and a subset of those tables are also available to be queried via MAST's new Catalogs Search.
