INS-wide JWebbinar for Cycle 6

This is a JWebbinar that is going to focuse on updates on many INS-wide updates. This will include new modes (eg, NIRspec/Prism multistripe) and overview on multistripe on SOSS. This is August 20th, at 11 AM.


NIRCam DHS Check-in/Discussion

Achrene wrote a proceedings for SPIE with updates on JWST/NIRCam DHS science verification/calibration:

  • Was able to extract the transit of WASP-18 b transit for the manuscript.
  • Idea is to write another mansucript with the actual transmission spectrum.
  • Submitting this soon (next few days) to SPIE.

  • Initial test didn't go through as OSS checked 10,000 second limit.
  • Studying visit files now to see if TSO flag is checked here or is only a pipeline-used-extension. After this, will study changes to APT to enable this.

Roundtable check-in


  • NIRCam: nothing to add above.
  • MIRI: 
    • Discussion on the jump step and work being done on the best technically correct way of detecting jumps, and how to handle short segments in terms of detection.
      • Jeff Valenti notes that this has been fixed in terms of having better-sized segments. So if you download the uncal files you should not have small trailing segments anymore. If we do, we should report this. See: JWSTDMS-1088 - Getting issue details... STATUS
      • Nestor Espinoza does a general comment about doing segment-level jump detections — believes this should be doing at the level of joining all segments. He does this in his own science too, people in the community tend to either skip the jump detection or set a very high threshold for detection. Hannah Diamond-Lowe notes she does the same.
      • Taylor Bell notes that this is basically a memory usage issue for users that run the pipeline.
      • Jeff Valenti clarifies that the size of the segments is set by the size of the file (~5 GBs). He agrees perhaps leaving this optional for a user is a good idea.
      • It seems proposals to the above could go in a Jira ticket...?
  • NIRspec:
    • All is out ETC/APT/JDox on Multistripe. There's some testing and details being set right now on this.
    • There's a TR on the works on the slopes on white light and wav dependant for NIRspec.
    • There was also discussion about the NIRSpec timestamps between NRS1 and NRS2. Munazza Alam to follow up on tickets that need to be pushed for this.
