Below is the information regarding the Director's Research Funds award. The awarded funding is to support a graduate student for one year. As indicated in the figure, this work is the seed of a comprehensive research project that could lead to a thesis.

Title: A Code to Model Dust Production from Nascent Planetary Systems

Abstract: We will develop a theoretical framework to tie JWST/Roman dust observations in the terrestrial planet region to the collisional formation history and evolution of terrestrial planets and super-Earths.  Funds are requested to couple an N-body code that models rocky planet formation (SyMBA) to a statistical code that models dust produced from coagulation and fragmentation (BOULDER) to simultaneously model, for the first time, the dynamical evolution of the  embryos and planetesimals and the dust produced from their collisions and subsequent debris grinding.
