The HST Ultraviolet Legacy Initiative for Stellar Physics and Star Formation

The Space Telescope Science Institute has decided to devote 600-1000 orbits of Director's Discretionary time in observing Cycles 27-28 to a new Hubble Ultraviolet Legacy Initiative [link to charge] centered on stars and star formation. The Ultraviolet Legacy Initiative will be modeled after the Frontier Fields program: all data obtained will be non-proprietary, as will contributed data and information.

A working group has been formed to engage with the scientific community and shape the final scientific program.  We hereby invite you to contribute ideas and example programs that leverage HST’s unique ultraviolet capabilities to study star formation.  We are particularly interested in service programs that provide reference data sets unlikely to be generated through GO time.  We have provided two example programs to illustrate the scope of this initiative.

A.  UV spectroscopic atlas of massive stars in the Magellanic Clouds [Link].
B.  UV imaging of massive star clusters, young and old  [Link].
